- Emily & Thomas | Ambrym Estate, Yeppoon Classic Country Wedding
From high school to here - Em & Tom married at Ambrym Estate in May. It felt only apt to have some cattle in their portraits, and made the perfect contrast with their soft, classic styling for the day! - The Tschirpig Family | Rockhampton CBD Family Photography
I'm going to say it... why did we stop taking family once the kids are teens?! I see a big gap between young children and high school graduates. "The kids hate it." Challenge accepted. "They're too old for photos now." There's no such thing. “They’re growing up too quickly." All the more reason. Well... I love these photos of the Tschirpig family, and I think it's so important to capture this stage too. If your kids are in their tween or teen years, maybe it's time to get in the frame together again. To book in photos of your own, please contact me for more information.
- Is it too good to be true? | Cheap wedding photography cautions & what to look for
Your wedding photography is one of those things you may not fully appreciate until the day is over. The flowers wilt and the cake will be eaten — but your photographs are what you'll have left to remember how the day actually looked and felt. So when you're planning a wedding on a budget, finding a photographer at a surprisingly low price can feel like a win. But before booking the cheapest option, it's worth asking: what are you actually getting for your money? Rather than looking at price alone, I recommend looking at the level of experience, preparation, equipment, backup systems and service of your vendors when it comes to an occasion that can't be recreated. Experienced photographer Low cost photographer Wedding experience Has photographed a wide range of real wedding days and situations May have limited experience photographing complete weddings Camera equipment Has professional camera bodies, variety of lenses and lighting equipment to cover all scenarios May be working with a smaller or more limited photography kit Backups Carries at least two camera bodies, extra batteries and backup equipment in case of failure May have limited or no backup equipment Memory card protection Will use cameras with dual card slots, saving two copies of images straight away May rely on a single memory card Image storage Keeps backups of photos for contingency whilst queued for editing and delivery May only store one copy of your images Post-processing Uses professional editing techniques including removal of distractions where needed Editing may be inconsistent with some details overlooked Insurance, booking systems & contracts Will have established insurance, professional processes and systems Not always included Planning guidance Can make recommendations and help create a realistic photography timeline May rely on the supplied schedule and information Posing & direction prompts Confidently directs couples, families and bridal parties for flattering results Still developing their approach Last minute changes Can quickly adjust when plans change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances May not have experience adapting under pressure Reliability and reviews Has a variety of public reviews, portfolio galleries and online presence May not have an established track record Note: there are exception to every rule. A newer photographer may have excellent equipment, insurance and backup systems, while an experienced photographer may work differently. If unsure, always ask. There's more to it than having a 'good camera' What happens when your ceremony runs 15 minutes late? Are they organised and able to adapt if you suddenly have less time for photographs than planned? Do they know how to work efficiently under pressure, still guiding you through poses and making sure each important grouping is captured? Can they tell the story of an entire wedding, or are you only seeing a handful of beautiful images? It's easy to think wedding photography is simply about having an expensive camera. But there's much more to it. You're also paying for their professional experience, for the moments they know to anticipate and for the problems they can solve (sometimes without you even knowing). Questions to ask before booking Before choosing your wedding photographer, ask: "Do you have backup equipment?" What happens if their primary camera or lens fails? "How are our photographs protected?" Ask about memory cards and image backups. "What happens if you become sick?" There should be a clear contingency plan. "Do you have insurance?" A legitimate professional should be comfortable answering this, and some venues will require public liability insurance. "Can I see a full wedding gallery?" This is one of the best ways to assess consistency, as opposed to Instagram highlights. "How do you handle difficult weather or lighting?" Your photographer can't control the weather, but they should know how to prepare and adapt. "What's included in the package?" Check hours, edited images, albums, travel and any additional costs. If you're planning a wedding in Rockhampton, Yeppoon/Capricorn Coast, Central Queensland or further afield, I'd love to hear about your plans. As an award-winning Central Queensland wedding photographer with over 15 years of experience, I bring a calm and adaptable approach to every wedding - even when things don't go exactly to plan. Please contact me to chat more about my wedding photography packages and check availability.
- YOUR GUIDE TO WEDDING STATIONERY | ROCKHAMPTON WEDDING INVITATION DESIGN
Although I specialise in portrait photography, I am also a qualified graphic designer and love combining these two passions. It makes me the perfect person to put together save the dates, invitations, signage and any paper goods you may need for your wedding! Your wedding stationery is one of the most important details to organise – let's face it, your guests may not arrive without it. It also gives a first impression of your wedding by setting the tone on formality and theme. So, what do you need and when do you need it? Save the Dates should be sent 6–12 months before the wedding for your guests to make work and travel arrangements, which is especially important for destination weddings. These can be simpler than your full invitations and make a great opportunity to use your engagement photos. Your official invitations should be posted out 8–12 weeks before the day to provide all the information your guests need and to gather final attendance numbers. However, it is becoming more common to send invitations earlier than this - especially if you have skipped sending Save the Dates. Most couples elect to include matching RSVPs, additional information cards and printed envelopes. Wedding stationery doesn’t end with invites so don't forget about any paper goods you will need on the day such as seating plans, menus, place cards etc. Custom signage is also important to keeps guests informed – consider having an ‘Unplugged Ceremony’ sign, seating plan etc. made to match your invitations. Lastly, thank you cards should be sent approximately three months after the wedding to express your gratitude for each guest's attendance and well wishes. Most couples incorporate a few of their favourite wedding photos and match the design to their Save the Dates. The images above include my previous custom wedding stationery orders and I also have a variety of pre-made designs available in my Etsy store which can be customised to suit your wedding at no extra cost. If you would like a quote for your own invitations please send me a message!
